Updated GIS Guidelines

The Land and Water Boards of the Mackenzie Valley are pleased to announce the release of our updated Guideline for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Submission Standard. This updated guideline will improve clarity for applicants and other parties with respect to requirements for the submission of geospatial data during the application phase of the regulatory process.

Preliminary Screening Workshop: Final Report

In September of 2016, 40 participants gathered to share knowledge about the preliminary screening process, discuss challenges associated with the process and identify constructive steps that could be taken to improve, clarify, and standardize preliminary screening processes within and across institutions.

Summary Report: An Introduction to Risk Assessment

In December 2011, the Wek’èezhìi Land and Water Board (WLWB) and the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board (MVLWB) hosted “An Introduction to Risk Assessment”, which was a 2-day information session on human health and ecological risk assessment. The purpose of the information session was two-fold: to ensure that all parties participating in Board decisions involving risk assessments in the mining industry have a good understanding of the topic, and to promote an open discussion about risk assessment.

UPDATED: Municipal Operation and Maintenance Plan Templates

The Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Boards, in collaboration with the Government of the Northwest Territories, are pleased to make available updated municipal plan templates. These fillable-pdf documents were collaboratively designed to be user-friendly and are intended to reduce the workload of municipalities to satisfy their municipal licence requirements. Updated Engagement Guidelines

The Land and Water Boards of the Mackenzie Valley are pleased to announce that our Engagement Guidelines for Applicants and Holders of Water Licences and Land Use Permits have been updated to improve clarity for applicants and other parties with respect to requirements for pre-application engagement.

Perspectives on Regulatory Improvement in the Mackenzie Valley

In response to the Federal Government’s Action Plan on the Northern Regulatory System, the Land and Water Boards of the Mackenzie Valley have prepared a position paper on this important issue. This document, which was sent to the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada in May 2011, details the Boards’ current understanding of the issues and provides recommendations for improvement.
