The Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board (MVEIRB) is holding a technical session for the Tlicho All-Season Road Project (Environmental Assessment 1617-01) on August 15 & 16, 2017 in Behchoko, NT. If required, MVEIRB will hold an additional day of technical session on Thursday, August 17. Parties and their technical advisors are strongly encouraged to attend the technical session in person.
In January and February 2017, the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board, Sahtu Land and Water Board, Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board, and Government of the Northwest Territories hosted plain language workshops for resource management practitioners with an emphasis on how to participate meaningfully in resource co‐management processes.

Wek’èezhìı Renewable Resources Board
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is seeking expressions of interest from the public in serving on the Wek’èezhìı Renewable Resources Board, pursuant to the open and transparent process for appointments announced by the Prime Minister last year. The deadline to submit expressions of interest is May 23, 2017.

The Land and Water Boards of the Mackenzie Valley are responsible for issuing water licences to community governments as required by the Waters Act. However, the responsibility of ensuring and monitoring compliance is shared with the various departments of the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT).
In May 2016, the Boards requested collaboration with the GNWT to improve water licence (WL) compliancy and the effectiveness of the current licencing process.
The Wek’èezhìi Land and Water Board will be holding a Board Meeting on April 12, 2017, at the Ko Gocho Centre in Behchoko. For more details, click here.
Dominion Diamond Ekati Corporation submitted an Application to amend their Type A Water Licence (W2012L2-0001) to increase the annual water use limits for Two Rock and Sable Lake to support the Sable pit development at Ekati Diamond Mine. In accordance with paragraph 41(2)(a) of the Waters Act, the Wek’èezhìi Land and Water Board (WLWB) scheduled a Public Hearing for March 2, 2017.
The Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board (MVLWB), Sahtu Land and Water Board (SLWB), Gwich’in Land and Water Board (GLWB), and Wek’eezhii Land and Water Board (WLWB) are requesting a statement of qualifications from contractors to supply engineering and scientific support services on an as-and-when needed basis.

The Public Hearing for the Water Licence Application W2013L2-0002 and Land Use Permit Application W2013D0007 for the Dominion Diamonds Ekati Corporation (DDEC) Ekati Jay Project will be held from Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 to Thursday, December 15th, 2016 from 8:30 am - 5:00pm at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife.
The Technical Sessions for the Ekati Jay Project will be held on October 4 - 6, 2016 at the Behchokǫ̀ Culture Centre. The sessions will start at 1:00 pm on the 4th, and 8:30 am on the 5th and 6th. A community dinner and information session on the WLWB process will be held at 5:00 pm on October 5th.

The Forum was established to enable representatives from the regulatory and environmental assessment boards based in Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon to share best practices, explore common challenges, and discuss potential solutions.
The Board will convene a teleconference and face to face meeting in Yellowknife on July 26th (the Meeting) to discuss the concerns expressed about the TSS limits and sampling requirements by DDMI in its May 27th correspondence to the Minister if ENR. The Meeting will be held in the Greenstone Building, 2nd floor Boardroom, from 1:00-5:00pm MST.
Due to the potential work stoppage by Canada Post, if you intend to submit or have submitted an application and/or other documentation to the Board during this period, please contact our office to confirm receipt and/or inquire about an alternative method for submission.
The Wek’èezhìi Land and Water Board would like to welcome Tom Bradbury as a Regulatory Specialist. Tom brings with him a wealth of experience ranging from a regulator with the Sahtu Land and Water Board in Fort Good Hope, a Water Resource Inspector with the federal government in Norman Wells, to a permitting coordinator at the Snap Lake Mine. We look forward to Tom being part of the Wek’èezhìi team!
The Land and Water Boards of Mackenzie Valley have developed the attached Draft Guideline for Geographic Information System (GIS) Submission Standard for public comment. The draft Guideline describes the Boards’ expectations for GIS associated submissions including project location description, maps, GIS data, and metadata.
