The Land and Water Boards of the Mackenzie Valley (LWBs) have an outreach program where Board staff and the Government of the Northwest Territories Environment and Natural Resources (GNWT-ENR) Water Resource Office (WRO) visit communities to provide Surveillance Network Program (SNP) training.
LWB staff hold education sessions about the rules for getting a water license. They also prepare customized SNP sampling manuals to help each community understand how to follow licensing requirements.
Board staff and the WRO assist communities in conducting appropriate sampling at various SNP sites in their communities, including solid and sewage waste facilities, wetland outflow sources, and raw water sources.
The Wek’èezhìi and Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Boards have been working with GNWT-ENR’s Water Resource Officers to provide the program since 2014 and 2016, respectively.
