In December 2011, the Wek’èezhìi Land and Water Board (WLWB) and the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board (MVLWB) hosted “An Introduction to Risk Assessment”, which was a 2-day information session on human health and ecological risk assessment. The purpose of the information session was two-fold: to ensure that all parties participating in Board decisions involving risk assessments in the mining industry have a good understanding of the topic, and to promote an open discussion about risk assessment. During the information session, participants heard about how and when to perform a risk assessment, community involvement in risk assessment, and some case studies of risk assessment in action. The Summary Report provides a description of the key discussion points raised during the two days of the information session.
